PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Over the years, there has been one consistent fact regarding breast cancer: The earlier it is detected, the better the chances one will survive.
There is also major research that supports the use of mammography to aid in early detection. But over the last few years, there have been a growing number of studies supporting the idea that there are different ways to treat breast cancer depending on different types.
Tumors can now be studied and various subtypes can be examined. Depending on the subtypes, there can be subtle differences in treatment that can make a huge difference in survival. More lives are being saved as a result.
