Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women worldwide according to the World Health Organization.
Migrants are often less likely to receive timely screening tests and diagnostic services for cancers, with limited access to legal documents, health information and health care services.
To help raise awareness of breast cancer amongst migrant women in Zwara, IOM held an information session on early detection of breast cancer, warning signs and symptoms of the cancer and how to access support.
An IOM female doctor and nurse also provided a lecture on breast self-exams. Forty migrant women from Nigeria, Guinea Conakry, Cameroon, Sudan and Ghana participated the event. Participants were invited to have free ultrasound examination throughout the week at the IOM clinic in Zwara.
