What started as the vanderMeer family’s way of helping offset medical and travel expenses for their son, Ber, has now turned into a fundraiser event celebrating its 16th year as Ber’s Bowl.
Ber vanderMeer was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer at age 4. His odds of living more than five years were low due to the severity of the cancer.
His mother, Amber, was working at acac Fitness & Wellness as a youth exercise instructor.
“We were traveling back and forth to New York for treatment, and they (acac) wanted to do something to help us raise money to help with medical bills and the cost of traveling back and forth to New York,” Amber said.
