Emory doctor hopeful about clinical trial for new skin cancer treatment [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – According to the National Weather Service, the UV index reached a very high rating of 10 on Tuesday. The index could reach even higher than that here in Georgia.

Doctors say the higher the number, the more you’re at risk of skin damage and ultimately skin cancer.

According to the Atlanta-based U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Georgians are getting skin cancer more often than the rest of the country. Data shows 2,986 cases a year in Georgia. According to the CDC data, 232 Georgians died of skin cancer in 2021.

Dr. Zachary Buchwald at the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University said “radiation” can sometimes feel like a scary word, but they’re looking at giving people an out-patient option.
