Ken Kato, MD, PhD, National Cancer Center Hospital East, Tokyo, Japan, discusses the long-term benefits of the docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (DCF) regimen in the JCOG1109 trial (NCT02188699) for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Results show higher deaths from other diseases in the chemoradiotherapy group, suggesting older patients may avoid pre-surgery radiotherapy.
