GREENVILLE — A hospital in Piscataquis county is changing the way women receive mammogram screenings, by putting their state of the art technology on wheels.
The Northern Light CA Dean Hospital in Greenville recently launched a groundbreaking new service for breast cancer screenings with their Mammography Mobile Unit.
“We are overwhelmed with excitement and we’re really hoping that all the woman take advantage of it because we really are here to provide this life saving care,” said Director of Imaging for Northern Light Mayo CA Dean hospital, Joanne Lovell.
The million dollar mobile unit was purchased with congressionally directed funds secured by Senator Susan Collins and is the first of its kind in the state.
The van is equipped with the same 3D technology that they have in the hospital. Members of the mammography team say it will allow them to reach more patients in rural areas.
