10 Scientific Abstracts from Lee Health Accepted at American College of Cardiology Conference [Video]

One of the world’s most important cardiology meetings is this weekend in Atlanta. “At that meeting, a number of presentations are made of new science called abstracts,” said Dr. Richard Chazal, the Director of Quality, Innovation, and Transformation at the Lee Health Heart Institute.

The Lee Health Heart Institute submitted 12 potential applications. “Which is a huge number even for an academic center, but even more remarkable, 10 of the 12 were accepted for presentation,” said Dr. Chazal. “The fact that we were able to get that number accepted speaks very highly of the level of science that we’re developing and promoting and studying here at Lee Health.”

About half of the abstracts were written by our medical residents mentored by senior faculty members and 4 were related to our world class imaging program. “This involved things like cutting-edge technology using artificial intelligence with imaging to get better interpretation of what’s going on in the heart, some images of unique differences in cardiac pathology that would be very difficult to get without advanced technology and advanced expertise that’s now available here,” said Dr. Chazal.

The Lee Health Heart Institute plan to exponentially expand research in the coming years. “That translates to improved patient care because it means that our cardiologists and our team of advanced providers, nurses, cardiac surgeons, are working together to study cutting-edge science to deliver better care to our population,” said Dr. Chazal.
