MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two pediatric cancer patients, who ended up working at St. Jude, reconnected years later and got married at St. Jude.

Joel Alsup usually sits on the other side of the camera. He works in media production for ALSAC, the fundraising arm of St. Jude, asking researchers about discoveries and breakthroughs happening on campus and getting to know St. Jude patients.

He has an easy time relating to them because Alsup himself was a St. Jude patient back in 1987.

“There was a tumor growing in my right arm, near my shoulder, growing large enough that it had put enough pressure on a bone that I had fractured a bone in my arm,” said Alsup. “Fortunately for us, our doctor who looked at that scan in Chattanooga, had done his fellowship right here at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
