The family of NFL running back O.J. Simpson revealed the infamous celebrity died on Thursday at the age of 76 after a battle with prostate cancer.

Simpson’s death has been a reminder to many of how he captured the country’s attention, first in the best ways and then the most horrific ways after he was charged in 1994 with the murders of Ron Goldman and Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. Simpson was acquitted of the charges after a controversial trial in Los Angeles, but he was later found responsible for the deaths in a civil suit.

Simpson served nine years in prison in Nevada after being convicted on robbery charges in 2008. He was released on parole in 2017. The controversial figure was a regular on X, formerly Twitter, but he mostly steered clear of interviews.
