Brittany Avin McKelvey, PhD, was an eighth-grade student athlete when she was shockingly diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She returned to school after a successful treatment. In this segment, Brittany shares her journey and how her disease inspired her to study science, eventually earning a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. She also discusses becoming a research advocate and reminds us about the real people behind the lab results.
