My name is Anupama Raghuram and I am an infectious disease physician with Norton Healthcare. I have a dual role here. One is as the Chief Scientific Officer for Norton Infectious Disease Institute, and the other is as an outpatient infectious disease physician with the Infectious Disease Clinic. And my practice focuses on HIV treatment and prevention. I’m originally from Brazil, where I completed medical school before moving to the United States to pursue an internal medicine residency, which I completed at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, followed by Infectious Disease Fellowship, which I completed at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. I chose the specialty of infectious diseases because of the variety of conditions and pathogens and diseases and global impact that the field has. So all that makes it very intellectually challenging and fulfilling. But besides that, I also enjoy establishing long-term relationships with patients to provide ongoing support and care.

Within the field of infectious diseases, the area of HIV treatment and prevention really fascinates me, and that’s because of the tremendous progress we’ve made in that field. We went from a life-threatening disease to one that today can be prevented and managed with very simple medication regimens, and that allows those who are impacted to have full and healthy lives. And all this progress really also highlights the power of research to generate that new knowledge that we need to develop better medications and impact better quality of life for our patients. As far as my previous professional experience, I was infectious disease faculty at University of Louisville for many years, and now I am a volunteer teaching faculty there. My other previous experience includes being an internist and also medical director in the areas of HIV and COVID-19. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. That’s my husband, my three children, three cats and a dog.

I like to stay active, so I like to do spinning classes. I do indoor rowing and I like to take long walks with my dog. Besides that, I love to read. I like to play the piano, and I’m a quilter.
