Brats for the Cure continues to raise tens of thousands for breast cancer research [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – Brats for the Cure kicked off Friday afternoon at Schnucks on University Street in Peoria, raising money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for over 20 years.

All the money raised from the weekend-long effort goes to the organization, funding patient care and research to find a cure.

Over the past two decades, Komen Development Director Jordan Clum estimates that they’ve raised around $200,000 for the foundation. She said the money not only goes towards research, but also to patients struggling with their finances.

”It is not cheap to be diagnosed with breast cancer,” Clum said. “There are needs, whether it’s rent, groceries, childcare, or transportation. We have a financial assistance program that will help patients relieve some of that burden.”

Volunteer. Komen board member, and former breast surgeon, Lynne Jalovec, said she’s thankful that Peoria is a big supporter of the organization every year.
