MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Colorectal cancer frequently develops quietly, without symptoms, and an estimated 152,810 people in the United States will be diagnosed with it in 2024, with an estimated 53,010 dying from it, making it the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the country, as well as the deadliest cancer among men under the age of 50.

Cedrek McFadden, MD, is a board-certified colorectal and general surgeon who teaches as an associate professor of surgery and Amishi Shah, who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer a little over a year ago, speaks with the Digital Desk about colorectal cancer and the need for screening.
