East Tennessee baseball tournament raises money to fight childhood cancer [Video]

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – In 2017, John Lane’s son was suddenly hospitalized with Rhabdomyolysis. He was immediately met with kind gestures from people across East Tennessee, including one of the opposing youth baseball teams in his son’s league.

It was then that Lane realized there were others on competing youth baseball teams that were dealing with their own medical concerns, like childhood cancer. Lane then decided to start the Bring The Thunder For Childhood Cancer Tournament, which raises money for those families with kids battling cancer.

“It was really hard. I had to go into the hospital a lot. I had to stay at the hospital a lot,” said 13-year-old Kyle Kostowicz, who is battling leukemia.

Kostowicz was one of the recipients of the fundraising efforts of 2018. Each Spring, there are two kids chosen, while every Fall, there’s usually one selected.
