Engineering chimeric antigen receptor regulatory T cells for treating cancer

Leonardo Ferreira, PhD, The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, SC, discusses the promising role of chimeric antigen receptor regulatory T (CAR-Treg) cells in treating solid tumors. Whilst CAR-T cells have been successful in liquid tumors, they have been not as efficacious in solid tumors. Regulatory T cells, a subset of T cells, have the ability to directly target solid tumors once engineered to do so. In mouse models, they stimulate the production of inflammatory cytokines and maintain chemokine receptor production. This interview took place at American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
