Gypsy Rose: True Crime Shorts

We are all fascinated by true crime to varying degrees, but very few of us delve deeper into the psychological variables that influence such cases. With the recent release of Gypsy Rose from prison, her case has gained a lot of spotlight. This is an opportunity for us to delve into a mental condition called Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP).

In this video we get a glimpse of what Gypsy’s childhood was like living with her mother who suffered from MSBP, ultimately leading to her taking the drastic step of killing her mother. In this video, we will discuss some common causes, the treatments and common characteristics present in people who suffer from MSBP.

This video was made by McMaster University students Prachi Patel, Judjina Thevarajah, Meghna Siddoji and Jasmine Patterson in collaboration with Puneet Sidhu and the Demystifying Research McMaster Program.
