WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and one man is sharing his story of battling the disease, and how a routine doctor’s appointment saved his life.
David Brantley says the key to beating the disease, is a simple screening.
There has been a lot of discussion recently about younger people getting colon cancer, and whether screening ages should change. But there’s one thing David Brantley does know: early detection saved his life.
Brantley was diagnosed with Chron’s disease earlier on in his life.
Doctors told him Chron’s was taking a heavy toll on him and that he only had six months to live. Doctors said, “If you manage to live six months, I’m going to consider you a miracle and I said at that point then I’ll just choose to be a miracle,” said Brantley.
Decades later, Brantley is a true walking miracle.
