High school orchestra performs music composed for 5-year-old battling cancer [Video]

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMBC) – A high school band in Missouri performed music specifically composed for a 5-year-old girl battling cancer.

The fight against leukemia has lasted for more than two years for Quincy Fitzgerald. She has been through several rounds of chemotherapy and dozens of doctor visits, according to her mom, Katie Fitzgerald.

During that time, Quincy and her 7-year-old sister wrote a short story about Quincy’s journey as well as future family trips and vacations.

When the North Kansas City High School orchestra heard about the story, they reached out to a former student to compose music to it, and the class learned how to play it.

Quincy’s mom said the gesture was something they had been hoping for.

“It just kind of gives you hope and it gives you comfort,” Fitzgerald said.
