INDIANAPOLIS (WTHI) – A bill aimed at improving breast cancer prevention and education in Indiana by alerting women of their breast density has cleared both chambers.
Tuesday afternoon, the Indiana Senate unanimously passed House Bill 1058. According to the bill’s author, Rep. Sharon Negele, the proposal aligns with updated mammography regulations from the Federal Drug Administration.
Dense tissue can look similar to cancerous tissue on a mammogram scan, making it harder for radiologists to see cancer in dense breasts. As a result, cancer might be detected once it’s larger or at a later stage.
