Investigating genomic associations in metastatic colorectal cancer

Paolo Manca, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, discusses findings from a real-world study metastatic patters in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Liver, peritoneal, and lung metastases were associated with RAS pathway mutations, whereas WNT pathway mutations lowered the risk of lung and peritoneal metastases. Genomic abnormalities at the localized stage were linked to metastasis risk, but there is no significant difference in actionable alteration frequency between primary and metastatic samples. This interview took place at American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
