Anika Dy, a former U-M golfer who was dedicated to being the best in her sport and academically, shares the story of her mental health journey and getting the help she needed. When she wasn’t able to meet her goals, she started to isolate and withdraw. She was struggling, and after seeing an Athletics counselor, Anika took a break from both golf and school. But when she returned, things were still difficult, and ultimately Anika needed to be admitted to the hospital for life-saving mental health care. While not linear, she has been on a better path since then, and says she owes her life to that experience and letting herself accept help.
