Jacqueline Celebrates her 50th Anniversary of Winning the Boston Marathon with Orthopaedic Support [Video]

Jacqueline Hansen grew up loving the solitude of running. As an accomplished runner, she won the Boston Marathon in 1973. In 2023, 50 years later, she was invited back to receive a special honor of shooting the starting gun. Unfortunately, on the eve of her trip, her shoulder gave out, due to severe arthritis.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Andy Jensen explains how Jacqueline needed a shoulder replacement, but she didn’t want to miss the race. Thanks to care from UCLA Health surgeon, she was able to travel to Boston for her 50th anniversary of winning the Boston Marathon. Raising her arm up with assistance, she fired the starting pistol at the beginning of the race. Upon returning, Jacqueline focused on her operation and physical therapy, and is on a successful road to full recovery.
