I’m John Timothy Garner, M.D. I’m a family board certified family medicine physician. Rather than specializing in one area, such as a cardiologist, I enjoy taking care of somebody with common cold, or somebody with diabetes, somebody of hypertension. That’s all enjoyable to me and it’s also get to know the whole family. So coming to a primary doctor, you can see the newborn as they grow up through adolescence, through their teenage years, into their adulthood. You take care of the grandparents and the parents as well through all age groups. So you get to know the whole family and get that connection to the family that way. That’s quite enjoyable to me.

Getting to know the patient will help relax them and calm them down, and it’ll be a much more pleasant visit for the patient and for you, because you enjoy listening to them and people just want to be listened to a lot of times by doctors, a lot of doctors can rush in and know they have 10 other patients waiting, but to me, while you’re with the doctor, that’s your time. So I’ll spend as much time with you as it takes for that visit. Some visits are quick, some visits aren’t as quick, because you require more stuff to be checked, or you just have more concerns and we need to talk about them.

I graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine, did my residency program at the West Virginia Department of Family Medicine. From there I went to Ashland Kentucky. I spent 20 years in Ashland Kentucky as a primary care doctor, ran my own practice for most of that 20 years. Once my last child graduated from high school, we decided we wanted to move to the beach. So we lived in Wilmington, North Carolina for the last seven, and then grandkids started. Grandkids is what brought us back to Louisville.

I enjoy reading, enjoy vacationing. Wife and I have been to a lot the of different locations. We have the grandkids here, and so we visit the grandkids as much as possible, and I enjoy medicine.
