“Kids Can’t Wait That Long” — Why Congress Must Pass the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act

Kids covered by Medicaid or CHIP who need specialized medical cancer care outside their state face bureaucratic hurdles that cause dangerous delays. The Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act is bipartisan legislation that slashes through the red tape – enabling kids to get timely access to lifesaving treatment more quickly.

Today, because of paperwork, kids often wait three to four months for treatment, explained Alexander Bassuk, MD, physician-in-chief at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, during testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health Feb. 29, 2024. “Kids can’t wait that long,” Dr. Bassuk said.
