Screening for colon cancer is so important for everyone, and there are a few options available.

“There’s a couple different options when it comes to colon cancer screening, two that we use most frequently,” says Dr. Allie Swanson, a Family Practice Physician at Fillmore County Hospital. “The first being a colonoscopy and the second being a Cologuard® stool test.”

There are some things to consider as to when you should start screening for colon cancer.

“Depending on your risk factors, your family history, any other medical conditions you have…typically, from 45 to 75 is when we start recommending colon cancer screening,” says Dr. Swanson.

If there is a stronger family history, it might even be earlier than that.
