March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women, according to the Cancer Wellness Foundation.

The American Cancer Society expects it to cause more than 53,000 deaths this year.

It is one of the most preventable and treatable diseases through screening. It’s recommended that everyone over 45 be screened, but if you have a family history of the disease, you may need to be screened earlier.

There are currently more than one million cancer survivors in the United States.

This year, WSFA 12 News reporter Julia Avant is participating in the “Women in Blue” campaign to benefit the Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama.
