McAllen High School students raising funds for classmate’s leukemia treatments [Video]

AJ Marroquin was 16 years old when he first got diagnosed with leukemia. 

Marroquin has been receiving intense treatments to fight the cancer for the past five months.

“It was really hard, going from just being a regular high schooler to completely changing my life,” Marroquin aid.

Once Marroquin’s friends heard about his diagnosis, they started a team called “Kicking Out Cancer, AJ Strong” to raise money for a fundraising initiative with the leukemia and lymphoma society.

“Our goal is to raise a $175,000, and our goal is just to help people in need who can’t afford the medical bills, or just need the support system,” McAllen High School junior Allison Tawil said.

The students have so far raised $40,000.

“We love AJ so much… but I think he needs to know that there are so many people that are in his corner,” McAllen High School junior Molly Blackwell said.
