Med Center Health launches new lung care program to fight against lung disease [Video]

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Kentucky has the highest rate of new lung cancer cases across the country.

In the Commonwealth, more than 10,000 people die from cancer each year, with lung cancer being one of the most common cancers in the state.

“Smoking is probably the number one contributor to lung cancer,” Med Center Health Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. Karen Nelson said.

To help address the high rates, Med Center Health has created a Lung Nodule Program.

The program is a joint venture between Med Center Health and Western Kentucky Heart, Lung and Gastroenterology. The goal is to detect lung nodules at the earliest stages to either prevent serious issues before they occur or to treat potential concerns as quickly as possible.
