TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A rise in breast cancer among younger people is forcing the medical community to change its guidelines.

According to a guideline released by the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) on Tuesday, the best age for women to start getting screened for breast cancer is age 40. This is changed from the previous guidance that recommended screening should start no later than 50. They also recommend you get checked every other year. But local doctors say every year is even better.

“We are missing a lot of patients that are at or around age 40 to 50 because not everyone is getting screening. And not enough insurances are approving all of those kind of procedures.
