One local girl is battling to overcome brain cancer | News [Video]

DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) – Mayme Stracener is like any other little girl. She is full of energy and is dedicated to trying a number of sports like volleyball, softball, or even cross country. She is one of five children, and she knows what it’s like to be a part of a team.

In July of 2023, something changed when she was trying to read, when all of a sudden, she couldn’t see.

Her mother April immediately thought she just needed glasses as she scheduled an appointment with an eye doctor. The doctor then told the family they needed to go to the emergency room.

“About 10 o’clock that night they said I had a brain tumor,” says Mayme Stracener.

The tumor was pressing on Mayme’s optic nerve, and the family dropped everything to head to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
