For more than two decades, thousands of women have had low-cost, convenient access to a “Mammovan”, a van providing mammogram services in a private setting within a mobile clinic.

Lesia Davis is a Muni bus driver. But for the last year, she’s been bringing a vital service to women by bus too. “It feels good,” Davis said, “I feel like I’m doing my due diligence helping the ladies of San Francisco.”

The mobile mammogram is celebrating its 20th year in service helping hundreds of thousands of women get easy and affordable access to the screening that helps detect any sign of breast cancer.

Every week, they park in front of the department of public health’s primary care clinics. On Thursday– Carol Harris, a Mammovan patient, came to one in front of the Bayview’s new and improved southeast family health center.
