“Jimmy Buffett Day” Announced In The State Of Florida
Just six months after his death, the state of Florida has established “Jimmy Buffett Day” to honor the life and legacy of the “Margaritaville” singer.
Buffett passed away on September 1, 2023 at the age of 76. He’d been privately battling a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer called Merkel-cell carcinoma for four years.
Tributes to Buffett poured in from around the world following his death. One of the most touching tributes came from the residents of Key West, Florida, a place that Buffett held dear to his heart.
Buffett moved to Key West in 1972. The island inspired many of his songs, and he even met his wife, Jane, while living there.
Although Buffett eventually moved away, Key West was always a beloved “home” to him. And Key West loved him in return.
