World Health Day – Inequalities and cancer with Dr Salvatore Vaccarella [Video]

Researchers at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) are involved in a wide range of projects to identify, monitor, and address inequalities related to cancer, including socioeconomic inequities in exposure to risk factors, access to screening and diagnostic services, and inclusion in cancer prevention programs.

In this video, Dr Salvatore Vaccarella presents results and insights from his research into inequities related to cancer. Recent findings indicate significant differences in cancer incidence and mortality exist among socioeconomic groups both between and within countries. Dr Vaccarella and his colleagues are working to pinpoint the reasons these inequalities exist, measure their extent, and generate new ways to address them.

The World Health Organization chose “My health, my right” as the theme for World Health Day 2024 to highlight the rights of all to access quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.
