WVU Cancer Institute seeking volunteers for new cancer screening test [Video]

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Every year, thousands of West Virginians undergo screenings for lung, breast, cervical, colon, and prostate cancers. These screenings are often invasive, but the WVU Cancer Institute is looking to change that with a simple blood test.

The Institute is currently seeking volunteers as it evaluates the Galleri multi-cancer early detection blood test which can detect more than 50 different types of cancer.

The WVU Cancer Institute and WVU Medicine are collaborating with GRAIL, LLC, to provide West Virginians with the Galleri multi-cancer early-detection blood test. In addition to early detection, the Galleri test can also assist in locating cancers in the body, which will help guide diagnostic follow-ups.

This test is part of the REFLECTION clinical real-world evidence study and Dr. Courtney Pilkerton, WVU Vice Chair of Research says this new method of testing could yield multiple benefits.
