#ArtiSential assisted total proctocolectomy for Colon Cancer and Ulcerative Colitis [Video]

A 45-year-old female patient, with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 and an ASA score of 3, presented with a longstanding history of ulcerative colitis spanning over 20 years. She was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon in close proximity to the ileocecal valve. No indications of distant metastases were observed in the CT scan.

The patient has undergone various therapy regimens including anti-TNF𝛼 monoclonal antibodies and corticosteroids. At present, she was receiving low-dose corticosteroid treatment.

The patient opted against a restorative approach and consented instead to undergo a proctocolectomy with end ileostomy.

An ArtiSential-assisted laparoscopic proctocolectomy, utilizing the ArtiSential Bipolar Forceps and the ArtiSential Monopolar Scissors was performed. There were no intraoperative complications, and the operative time was 230 minutes with an estimated blood loss of 20 ml. Apart from experiencing a transient and short-term postoperative paralytic ileus, the patient’s recovery proceeded without events.

Pathological findings revealed: pT3, pN2a, M0, G2, L1, R0.
