Best test to detect cancer: Novant reminding women to schedule regular mammograms [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The prevalence of women skipping mammograms has become a huge concern for doctors across the country.

The concern includes women in Charlotte, but doctors are making it easier for their patients to get their screening done.

Women 40 years or older likely already know they need to make time for annual mammograms. Novant Health said the issue is not that people don’t know, they just are not doing it.

Since COVID, Novant’s Shannon Hostetter said patients have pushed off annual screenings, missing anywhere from two to three years.

“Delaying an exam by two to three years could potentially put you at risk for having to have additional imaging and further testing done, but the consistency will provide the radiologist over time to see any interval change,” Hostetter said.

To help, the Novant Health Breast Centers, including the newest location on Lillington Avenue near Uptown, is offering walk-in appointments.
