Cancer survivor discusses Get Your Rear in Gear event, friendship with WBTVs Steve Crump [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Glenn MacDermod, a colorectal cancer survivor from Mooresville, will once again be present at the annual Get Your Rear in Gear 5K in Charlotte this Saturday.

The annual walk/run organized by the Colon Cancer Coalition helps to raise thousands of dollars for colon cancer screening, research and education and awareness efforts.

MacDermod spoke to WBTV in advance of the event, reflecting on his battle with colorectal cancer. He recounted the day he learned he had cancer.

“It was a surreal day,” he said. “It was about 48 hours of just looking through a tunnel, just trying to catch your breath.”

He noted that he underwent radiation and chemotherapy and had to endure multiple surgeries. He said he is now living life as a survivor.

MacDermod said he met Steve Crump, a veteran WBTV reporter and community leader, at a Get Your Rear in Gear event following Crump’s own diagnosis with colorectal cancer. He said the two men instantly became friends.
