CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A 44-year-old Charlotte mother of three survived stage 4 colon cancer and shared her story to encourage others to schedule their colonoscopy during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
New data from the American Cancer Society shows colon cancer is the number one killer of men and number two killer of women here in the U.S.
And while the number of cancer patients is dropping nationwide, the data shows colon cancer is claiming more lives than ever before.
Christy Williams’ story began when she was having bleeding and cramping that sent her to her doctor who recommended she get a colonoscopy. She had just run a marathon and thought her symptoms were because of her rigorous training for the race.
