Local physician discusses what barriers are keeping women from getting mammograms [Video]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A new report from the CDC claims not enough of you are getting your mammograms.

The CDC says transportation, costs, and health insurance could play a big role.

Dr. Alexia Novara told WBRC it’s crucial that women get their screenings done as early as 40 years old every one to two years. Dr. Novara said women who miss out on their screening are more at risk for later stages breast cancer that are much harder to treat.

Dr. Novara agrees with the CDC saying they all notice the same barriers that affect women’s health care and health care in general, like the lack of transportation, health insurance, and costs.
