NI-HEART study results: cardiotoxicity after lung cancer radiotherapy [Video]

Gerard Walls, MB MRCP MSc FRCR, Queens University in Belfast, UK, discusses key findings from the NI-HEART analysis focusing on cardiotoxicity events after radiotherapy for lung cancer. The analysis explored the potential benefits of statin therapy in reducing cardiotoxicity events post-treatment, revealing an association between statin use and improved overall survival (OS). Additionally, the study investigated the impact of radiation dose on pulmonary veins, identifying a correlation between higher doses and increased risk of atrial fibrillation. Furthermore, validation of the Manchester data regarding the heart base region showed that higher doses to this area were associated with cardiac events like heart attacks and heart failure. This interview took place at the BTOG 2024 congress in Belfast, UK.
