Not your average consultant, Sarah Blankenship, at the age of 34, is becoming the queen of local nonprofits.

Originally from Connecticut, her life took a turn about a decade ago when her father became sick with pancreatic cancer. Eager to be by his side, she moved to Lynchburg to be closer to him.

What she wasn’t expecting was to fall in love with the area and make it her home even after her father died.

“There wasn’t much going on downtown at the time but I saw all the opportunity there. It was like a blank slate just waiting for people to come and do things and so I always wanted to be part of that scene and that culture,” she said.

While working at Crown Sterling, she crossed paths with individuals from Bank of the James, who recognized her talent for community engagement and offered her a job there.
