Red Sox to honor Wakefields, Lucchino at home opener at Fenway Park [Video]

The Red Sox will pause Tuesday before Fenway Park’s 2024 home opener to honor several beloved members of the team who recently died. The life, legacy and community impact of team Hall of Famer Tim Wakefield and his wife, Stacy, will be honored. The team will also honor former Boston Red Sox president Larry Lucchino, who died last week. Tim Wakefield, 57, died on Oct. 1, 2023, just days after it was revealed he had been recently diagnosed with brain cancer. The knuckleball pitcher was the honorary chairman of the Red Sox Foundation and spent 29 years in the Red Sox organization as a player, special assistant and broadcaster.Stacy Wakefield, Tim’s wife of more than 20 years, died Feb. 28 after her own battle with cancer.
