Hi, my name is Stacey. I’m a nurse practitioner. I got into this job because I had a lot of sick family, so watching them over the years and wanting to do more to help, I started to become a nurse, and eventually I became a nurse practitioner to further help people.

A nurse practitioner is able to do a lot of things, similar to what any doctor is able to do. We are able to assess you, write orders, make recommendations, give you medications, and things like that to help your everyday life. But in my opinion, a nurse practitioner takes the time and is able to better assess due to our nursing background.

When you first come see me, we’re going to sit down and get to know each other a little bit, we’re going to talk about what medications you’re on, what medical history you have, any surgeries or anything like that, and we’re going to look at your medical records, review your medical records, and we’re going to talk about why you’re there today. We’re going to decide the best plan of care for you, and make sure you leave understanding what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.

For the last four and a half years, I’ve been a nurse in the emergency department and I’ve been a leader in the emergency department, so that is one reason that I decided to become a nurse practitioner in urgent care. I always enjoy that I never know what’s going to come through the door, treating a vast array of diagnosis that come in during the day, and being able to always see different people at different times in their lives, and be able to treat them and make things better for them.

I’m originally from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. I moved here in 2008 to graduate from the University of Louisville, and my nurse practitioner is from Northern Kentucky University.
